BBC Jane Eyre 2006 Press Pack Released

Why wait to hear about it in the newspaper when you can download it all from the BBC? The Press Pack is available for download from this website, thanks to Biedroneczka!

Ruth Wilson, as Jane Eyre, and Toby Stephens, as Edward Rochester, lead a stellar cast in a compelling new adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s much-loved novel Jane Eyre.

Orphaned at a young age, Jane is placed in the care of her wealthy aunt Mrs Reed, who neglects her in favour of her own three spoiled children. Jane is branded a liar, and Mrs Reed sends her to the grim and joyless Lowood School where she stays until she is 19.

Determined to make the best of her life, Jane takes a position as a governess at Thornfield Hall, the home of the alluring and unpredictable Edward Rochester. It is here that Jane’s journey into the world, and as a woman, begins.

Writer Sandy Welch (North And South, Magnificent Seven), producer Diederick Santer (Shakespeare Retold – Much Ado About Nothing) and director Susanna White (Bleak House) join forces to bring this ever-popular tale of passion, colour, madness and gothic horror to BBC ONE.

Producer Diederick Santer says: “Sandy’s brand-new adaptation brings to life Jane’s inner world with beauty, humour and, at times, great sadness. We hope that her original take on the story will be enjoyed as much by long-term fans of the book as by those who have never read it.”

The serial also stars Francesca Annis as Lady Ingram, Christina Cole as Blanche Ingram, Lorraine Ashbourne as Mrs Fairfax, Pam Ferris as Grace Poole and Tara Fitzgerald as Mrs Reed. Georgie Henley, who starred in the Christmas blockbuster The Chronicles Of Narnia, plays young Jane.

  2. I tried all of the links just now and they work fine for me. I don’t know how to explain the glitch. Try it again.

  3. The Rochester brooding picture isn’t coming up for me, either. “This image has been moved or deleted [from Photobucket.]”

I hate to hear myself say this, but… I wish Rochester were uglier…!

  4. to Vaire: That’s very odd. I would upload the pictures to Blogger if I could! I don’t know why I’ve been having such trouble posting pictures lately. It is a larger version of the second picture I have posted. try again later perhaps? And I’ll keep trying to get blogger to work properly.

  5. To all:

I think I’ve finally fixed the link… Let me know if there are still any problems.

  6. It works, hurrah!

  7. So Jane is shorter than Rochester after all! (Or Toby is standing on a hillock.) What a relief!

  8. Great pictures! Rochester looks wonderfully moody – very Byronic!

Ruth and Toby look great together, hope it translates on screen!

Great pic of Georgie on the stool!

    Brilliant pics, thanks Bronteana!

  9. Lovely pics, thank you! I am looking forward to this show, I shall have to bribe my sister, possibly with large amounts of money to vacate the sofa when it’s on. It’s not her cup of tea, she likes Big Brother and Brat Camp, heathen that she is.

I might be alone here, but I’d like Toby to be a bit more red headed; his hair looks too dull a brown, but that’s just me. He’s still gorgeous though 🙂

Off topic: Bronteana, you might already know, but the next Thursday Next book will be called “The War of the Worlds” and it’s out in 2007. 😀

  10. to liz:

Yes, we can all stop worrying about Rochester being Jane’s little elf 😉

  11. to marshalsea:

    You said the ‘B’ word!

I like the picture of Jane and Rochester, but I think the pose is a little unfortunate. However, it seems to me that there’s an interesting depth to his expression. I’m intrigued!

  12. to pennyforyourdreams:

I’m going away to grad school, and I am already plotting how to secure the TV room. I don’t watch TV at all, so I think my demands will be perfectly reasonable. Otherwise I will have to wait until the DVD comes out, even though I’ve been following the production for a ridiculously long time.

Hmn. I would say his hair should be darker. It looks darker in other pictures so perhaps this is a mist effect (his hair looks damp as though he’s been though a fog). I know his hair is naturally blond/red, so perhaps a dark auburn would have been better. Some people have remarked that it looks too dyed. I’m not that picky- so long as he can play the part!

I didn’t know about the new TN! This is wonderful news! I wonder how soon details are going to show up on Fforde Grand Central…

  13. Sorry Bronteana! I’ll try to not mention the B – word in future.

‘I am already plotting how to secure the TV room.’

After all your efforts with this blog, you have to demand the TV room!

Oh and thanks to pennyforyourdreams for the Jasper Fforde info!

  14. Who is that in the last picture? The one with a cap(?) on?

    Comment by mysticgypsy — July 19, 2006 @ 8:20 pm |Reply

  15. to marshalsea:

    I kid. 🙂

And this is supposing I will be able to get a channel which carries it.

Hopefully more info on TN5 will come out soon. So far it is nowhere to be seen at Fforde Grand Central. But I did track it down. It is listed in the back of his recent book ‘The Fourth Bear.’

  16. to mysticgypsy:

I’m almost certain that is Grace Poole.

  17. Doh: The new Thursday Next book is called “The War of the WORDS”, not worlds. Sorry for any confusion.

Bronteana: Good luck in procuring a tv, I’m already planning an assault on the sofa, mainly this involves me sitting down and refusing to move. And I’ll probably still buy the DVD.

You may already have seen this site, but you can see a bit of Toby as Hamlet (another conflicted man) here.

I wish I had had access to this site when I was studying Hamlet, very good indeed.

  18. to pennyforyourdreams:

Good plan. I’ll have to try that if schedule permits! I went to the Hamlet website but I didn’t want to see too much. I don’t want any expectations of his performance- good or bad.

I’m surprised that we’re not seeing more interviews. So far there’s just that short one from months ago where he said he likes to play conflicted men.
